Texas Rep. Brent Money recently filed HB 3399, an act which, if passed, would leave trans minors and adults in the state without access to any gender-affirming care, including HRT and surgery.
The text of the bill, which previously only banned gender-affirming care for minors, has now been amended to apply to all transgender Texans, a state home to the third largest population in the country, after California and New York.
HB 3399 is an aggressive attempt to curtail all access to life-saving care for trans individuals at every stage of transition. It is a threat to trans children, parents of trans children, trans adults, and all medical providers currently helping patients seeking gender-affirming procedures and HRT. The number of trans adults currently residing in Texas is close to 100,000.
If this bill passes into law, it will not be the last of its kind. On the contrary: it will serve as a template and a precedent set to strip trans people of all ages of basic rights to humane medical care, no matter where they happen to live.
This is what trans people have been warning you about. This is what we’ve been talking about. The genocide we’ve feared is here, and no one is safe.
