Fox News host Jesse Watters missed the boat on his true calling: being cast as a minor Sopranos character on one of the later seasons. Sadly for us, that didn’t stop him from pursuing his other calling: ranting and raving on Fox News, alongside several other esteemed ranters and ravers of the right.
RelatedNot surprising, but bizarre
He’s certainly not known for making salient points about gender and the society we live in, but a recent comment of his gives Judith Butler a run for their money.
smh you used to have to go to so much effort to force feminise a guy, now you can just send him to HR

You heard that right: sitting behind a desk all day makes you a lady. It’s science.
This choice sound byte comes from a clip of Watters and fellow Fox News hosts on his talks show The Five. In a desperate attempt to make Tr*mp’s economy-crashing tariff plan make sense, Watters claimed that the tariffs will bring back masculinity as we once knew it.
I think we can all see the problem here, which is that Republicans love to say that gender is fixed and immutable and in the same breath claim that doing something too potentially feminine—like tying your shoes, loving your wife, cleaning the fridge, or apparently sitting behind a computer screen—will trans you.

If you’re noticing that it doesn’t make sense, you’re spot on. Obviously we don’t look to the good pundits of Fox News for logic, good sense, or even quality debate, so none of this is surprising. But it’s absolutely a bold move to claim that crashing the global economy is going to be the thing to make real men of us again. I suppose in the sense that it could bring us back to hunter/gatherer status, but even that’s a pretty flawed claim. Gender is in the mind’s eye, which is unfortunate for Jesse Watters, who has neither.
