This queer TikToker just made an ex-gay pivot, and people are worried

If you’ve been on queer TikTok this week, you’ve probably come across people talking about Jadon, a TikToker who started out making queer content and is now doing a sharp pivot toward Christian content.

Which is totally fine, and would be none of anyone’s business…were it not for the fact that Jadon came on TikTok recently to explain that once she found the Lord, she stopped identifying as queer.

While Jadon explains in her video that she’s always felt accepted in her queerness by the Christians around her, she claims that she had a recent dream in which Jesus pointed out to her that certain things in her life were “not aligned with scripture.”

But which things specifically?

“I really do have to choose,” the explains, “because that’s what the Bible says clear as day multiple times.”

Comments were turned off on the post, which tells you everything you need to know.

She claims that since the dream, she’s no longer attracted to women. Which is…interesting.

Now, folks who followed Jadon are sounding off.

“God spoke to you and now you’re not gay anymore,” Shanna Simon said in their own video responding to Jadon. “Cool! That’s your experience. But to come on here as a queer influencer, with an audience rooted in queerness…to come on here and even suggest the idea that it’s not acceptable to be gay and Christian, that’s where we have to draw the line.”

Another queer creator, @digital.olive, also called Jadon out.

“The real recession indicator is when gay people start going back to the Church and saying like, ‘oh I’m not gay anymore.’ Hello, we are regressing.”

As many creators are pointing out, the problem isn’t that Jadon has found religion. It’s the implication that to be Christian you have to stop being queer. Even though Jadon doesn’t say that outright, her testimony sounds a little bit like conversion therapy. She states that finding God was like getting her brain replaced—already terrifying—with one that didn’t sexually desire women. Which is fine if that’s her experience, but again…that is overwhelmingly not the case with most queer people, religious or not.

“Lesbians who love God,” says creator @FANGS, “You do not have to stop loving women just to love your God. Your God is all-loving.”

Period. Even though it’s really hard to be queer in the US right now and we’re definitely experiencing a return to conservative Christian ideology all over the place, there is always room to be both queer and religious. And if you find yourself in a space where people are making you feel like those things are incompatible, it’s time to leave that space immediately.
