Republicans continue to sink to new lows as they find new ways to attack LGBTQ+ people just for existing. A North Carolina candidate for public office just lied about the LGBTQ+ acronym in order to advance her own agenda, and queer folks aren’t having it.

Michele Morrow, a Republican candidate for North Carolina’s Superintendent of Public, recently posted an attack on her Democratic opponent, Mo Green, who was endorsed by the LGBTQ+ advocacy group Equality North Carolina.
“Mo Green has stated that the Parental Bill of Rights ‘Does more harm than good’ and he states he is ‘proudly endorsed’ by Equality NC, whose mission statement is to promote LGBTQ+ power,” she wrote.
Culture, unfiltered
Twice a week, our newsletter will bring you the pulse of queer culture, from the tastemakers to the groundbreakers.
“NEWSFLASH…the ‘+’ includes PEDOPH*L*A!!,” Morrow continued. “Mo Green will NOT keep our children safe!”
She also stated that she would “suspend the license of any staff member arrested for crimes against children.” Considering that Republicans in the state are already trying to equate being LGBTQ+ with obscenity, including against children, this doesn’t bode well for what Morrow might do if elected.
Needless to say, there is no evidence that the LGBTQ+ acronym includes pedophilia, with attempts to state otherwise being propagated largely by right-wingers and online trolls seeking to attack queer people.
Morrow has been a controversial figure for other reasons as well. In a Facebook livestream on January 6, 2021, she advocated for the arrest of anyone who believes that the 2020 election was legitimate and called for a military coup.
