It’s been over a month since we’ve had to sit with the news about this country. You know what news I’m talking about: the horrible news, the very bad, idiotic, disgusting news that tells us (wrongly) that most of the people in this country hate gay and trans people and can’t read past a 2nd grade level.

Jerry Doran is a veteran, which means he’s one of the people our incoming President has repeatedly turned his back on. “To the people out there who have served and have been injured, and are experiencing PTSD…” he says in a recent TikTok, “they need continued help. They served our country. And Donald Trump and his people want to just turn their backs on them.”
Doran then references a shocking statistic. Referring to a 2016 report from the VA which stated that veterans commit suicide at an average of 20 deaths per day, he explains that no one will get away with treating suffering veterans this poorly. Going into the Trump family’s history of opportunism, Doran then arrives at the most salient point: interference happened in this election, and we all know it, and Trump, who’s already intent on silencing criticism from the press, won’t get away with it.
“We have an executive order coming out, 13848,” Doran states. “It’s gonna be implemented. It’s been out. Donald Trump helped create it, and now it’s coming back to bite him in the a**.”
What does this order do? It concerns best practices for handling an election that dealt with outside interference.
“There definitely has been [intereference,]” Doran states. “They’re going to reveal that on the 20th of December.”
Now look, I know what you’re thinking. Why would all this be happening now? Why wouldn’t this news have come out closer to the election? According to Doran, it’s because 45 days from November 6th is December 20th, and according to order 13848, the report must be submitted within that time frame.
Obviously it’s a far-flung hope, but it’s something. We’ve known from the start that something isn’t right here, and as Trump goes out of his way to organize the worst cabinet in history, we can at least hold out the hope of a final reprieve.
