Tom Felton’s cowardly JK Rowling take has everyone’s blood boiling

In another world, JK Rowling might have kept her reputation as a groundbreaking children’s author of a beloved series. But since she’s decided to throw that legacy down the toilet in favor of being a mold-addled bigot railing against trans people from her yacht, we’ve all got to divest. And while actors in the first Harry Potter franchise have remained outspoken and exacting in their necessary criticism of the author, others have stayed silent, or worse.

Consider, for instance, Tom Felton, who remained true to his character Draco Malfoy in his pro-Rowling stance with this response to Variety.

Tom Felton says the controversy around J.K. Rowling’s political views doesn’t impact him: “I’m not really that attuned to it…I have not seen anything bring the world together more than Potter. She’s responsible for that, so I’m incredibly grateful.” TonyAwards

“Does the Twitterverse controvery around JK Rowling’s views…impact you at all?” The Variety reporter asked Felton on the Tony’s Red Carpet last night. Interesting to call a years-long, well-funded attack on an entire community a “Twitterverse controversy,” but sure.

“No, I can’t say it does. I’m not really that attuned to it,” Felton responded. “The thing I remind myself is that I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world…and I have not seen anything bring the world together more than Potter.”

Interesting cop out! But not surprising. In the comments, people are summing up the interaction accurately.

“As a straight white man no it doesn’t affect me plus she made me rich,” one poster wrote. And yup, that’s about the size of it.”

“So, basically he’s had no success anywhere else so he’s following the money.” Bingo!

But one commenter really put it best, stating: “Emma Watson was so correct to not date him.”

Exactly. Good luck finding work—and people to date you—with this chode-tastic opinion floating around the Internet Tom!
