Trans people have spicy thoughts about Trump’s latest gaffe

After the instigators of the January 6th insurrection seemed to get off scot-free—including the lead instigator himself—people are sounding off on Bluesky. Nobody’s surprised by any of it at this point, but we are prepared to match the current lunacy in the air with some lunacy of our own.

For instance, Trump’s beyond-stupid plan for the Gulf of Mexico’s rebranding…

if he does this i’m deadnaming the hell out of it

We collectively decided back when Twitter got rebranded as X that this was a rare case where we won’t be respecting chosen names. Deadnaming is totally fine in this instance, because why on Earth would you rename something like the Gulf of Mexico and expect us all to go along with it? The answer is racism.

We’ll be fighting fire with fire for the next four years, which means we’ll be actually be fighting stupidity with stupidity.

We will reserve our right to not respect this extremely poor choice, clearly the first of many!

“They should rename it to X The Everything Gulf,” one Bluesky user stated, referencing X’s idiotic rebranding last year.

It’s giving Freedom Fries, as many are already pointing out, recalling the bizarre moment post 9/11 when we wanted to punish French people for opposing the war in Iraq by…making fries American again?

It could be a distraction, a con, or a bit—whatever is it is, it’s dumb, and we don’t be respecting it. Period!

“I think it’s a fair trade,” one poster wrote, “so long as we rename our country to the United States of Mexico.”

Now that would be progress.
