Trixie Mattel Refuses to Apologize for Racist Joke About Picking Cotton

This All Stars winner is not backing down.

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 3 winner Trixie Mattel is not apologizing after telling a racist joke at a roast in Denver, Colorado. Video of her joke leaked online earlier this week and began to go viral on Instagram and other social media. According to Out, the joke is some months old and just now resurfaced.

“You like this outfit? I couldn’t decide what to wear,” Mattel says. “It’s just like a cotton. Latrice picked it.”

After Mattel made the joke, the audience split in two: some began to groan while others began to laugh.

“Oh, is that too far, Denver?” Mattel asks. “Did you forget to invite your Black friends tonight?”

The ensuing conversation over the clip was enough to force Mattel to respond on Twitter.

“If you think drag queens apologize for jokes at a roast, you watch too much TV,” Mattel said.

This isn’t the first time Mattel’s humor has gotten her into trouble. When the video of Dr. David Dao being dragged off a United Airlines flight went viral, Mattel responded with a joke and a Laganja Estranja gif, leading fellow queens like Kim Chi to ask her to take it down. Mattel did not.
