Trump signs executive order to ban trans women from sports

In a current livestream, Trump is expected to sign his next executive order, this time concerning trans participation in sports.

Last week, Trump signed orders banning gender-affirming care for teens under 18, along with an order that would have forced trans women in prison to be transferred to men’s prisons. That order was thankfully struck down today by a judge who ruled it “cruel and unusual” in the textbook sense of the phrase, and folks showed up en masse to protest hospitals that are trying to comply with the under-19 HRT ban, including NYU Langone in New York City and Children’s Hospital LA in Los Angeles.

Today, trans activists and organizers and waiting to hear what the next attack on their open existence will be.

“Donald Trump is expected to sign a far reaching executive order banning trans people from sports, which can range from disc golf to darts and even dancing and chess, in mere moments,” Erin Reed reported via Substack today. “It is expected to have other far-reaching provisions in schools as well, though this is less certain. The NCAA has already indicated it may comply.”

We knew something like this would happen—the question is, just how vague are they going to be in defining what constitutes a sport? If Erin is right and things like dart-throwing and dancing are in the mix, the order could drastically change the lives of trans athletes on every level. The order is said to concern only girls and womens’ sports, in keeping with the Trump administration’s transmisogynistic targeting of trans women and girls.

“This doesn’t have to be long, it’s all about common sense,” Trump told the crowd before stating he’ll sign an order to ban “men” from women’s sports.

He then started talking about the military for some reason, before returning to the issue at hand, stating that the “radical left” is trying to promote a “radical transgender ideology.” He made repeated reference to “men claiming to be girls” and misgendered several trans women athletes to the crowd’s derisive laughter.

Trump also furthered the erroneous claim that Olympic boxer Imane Khelif, a cis woman, was a trans woman.
