Trump’s Time cover is reminding the gays of something terrifying

As we get closer to Trump taking office in January, we’re seeing record amounts of cowardice from the news outlets and media conglomerates desperate to get on the future dictator’s good side. Perhaps the most stark example is Time Magazine deciding to name Trump as their “person of the year,” a dubious honor he also received in 2016.

Obviously anyone with brains left in their head sees this for the disgusting pandering that it is. To the winner goes the spoils, even if you can smell the winner’s unwashed a**hole from miles away. But this is the world we live in now, and queer people are not happy about it, to put it quite mildly.

But we shouldn’t be surprised. This has happened before.

What the hell are we even doing? Normalizing & green-lighting another psychotic madman. That’s what we’re doing. It’s f’ing insane.

85 years after naming Adolf Hitler as Time Person of the Year they are naming Donald Trump Time Person of the Year.

In 1938, Adolf Hitler was chosen as Time Magazine’s “Man of the Year.” While the choice was not an endorsement, it still spoke volumes about the rising fascist tide that would soon overtake Europe.

One could argue that the Time Trump covers—in 2016 and now—aren’t an endorsement either. But looking at the way Trump is framed in the new cover tells a story all its own.

We could have seen this coming. And it’s not like there weren’t signs.

Every media company might be paying tribute to their new Caesar currently, but we can remain blasé in the face of fresh embarrassments.

If Time had any guts, they wouldn’t give the “Person of the Year” title to a man bent on destroying the country and possibly the world. But they don’t have any guts—and they didn’t have any in 1938 either.

Time Magazine put Hitler on its cover, too, so it’s not like this is unprecedented

Just a few years after naming Hitler their Man of the Year in 1938, they ran this cover.

In 1939, Time magazine made Hitler person of the year, six years later this was their cover ❌🩸 That year, Hitler had invaded Poland, annexed Austria and triggered Britain & France to declare war

Hopefully they’ll do the same for Trump in a year or two. But we can’t count on it.
