Twitter Reacts to Grindr’s New ‘Explore’ Feature

· Updated on May 28, 2018

The question of “host or travel” just got a little more interesting.

This week Grindr completed the global release of its new Explore search, which lets users browse and connect with people anywhere in the world.

The update takes the grid from hyperlocal to truly global, and naturally the internet has feelings. Cue Twitter, where the feature received a warmwelcome from gay geography buffs, curious travelers, and international thots alike.

Anyone can use Explore to window shop and check out queer life in other locales, but for now contacting people elsewhere requires a subscription to the app’s paid service Grindr XTRA, as noted by one intrepid hoe explorer:

That said, anyone using a 1-week free trial of XTRA has full access to the feature and can hit up whoever, wherever, whenever.

Safety and privacy remained top-of-mind for Grindr in developing the new featureExplore results are disabled for countries where it remains unsafe to be LGBTQ, and anyone can opt out of appearing in Explore searches at any time in their Grindr settings.

For everyone else, it’s open season.
