RuPaul is known for many things: Her illustrious drag career, her international reality TV franchise, and her one-of-a-kind way with way words — aka, a vocabulary equal parts endearing and bewildering.
All those sides of RuPaul were on display as she announced her upcoming memoir, The House of Hidden Meanings. The supermodel of the world took to X, formerly Twitter, to share the news through shaky breaths and with a healthy helping of sentimentality.
“After two and a half years, it’s finally here. My memoir. I’m so excited and so anxious at the same time because I really reveal so much of myself,” Ru says in the video. “This world today, it feels so hostile and it’s such a scary place to be vulnerable in, but … I did it. So get ready!”
With that, Ru breaks into her signature uproarious laugh.
The caption for the video is just as quintessential to Ru: “Writing this book left me gooped, gagged and stripped raw. I’ve learned that vulnerability is strength, but so far, all I feel is nervous as hell, yet super excited to share it with y’all,” she wrote. “When all is said and done, it’s just me, Ru.”

‘Drag Race UK’ Is Back for a Fifth Season With Jaw-Dropping Guest Judges
RuPaul is headed back across the pond for a fifth season of Drag Race UK, and the full line-up of guest judges is nothing short of fabulous.
As for the book itself, The House of Hidden Meanings promises an unadulterated account of RuPaul’s epic life, from his turbulent childhood to his discovery of drag to his love story with husband Georges LeBar.
Fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race may be surprised to find that the book covers only the first 40 years of Ru’s life, stopping long before Drag Race was ever conceived. But the glitz and glamor of Ru’s story isn’t the point of this memoir: As the book’s synopsis puts it, “If we’re all born naked and the rest is drag, then this is RuPaul totally out of drag. This is RuPaul stripped bare.”
The cover, a portrait of Ru sporting a goatee and looking more masc than we’re used to seeing her, reflects that sentiment. Clearly, this is going to be the story of RuPaul the human being, not just RuPaul the drag queen.
The House of Hidden Meanings will hit shelves on March 4, 2024. It’s available for pre-order now.
