Nowadays, Chappell Roan is touring the world with her music, prompting celebrity reunions and creating viral moments everywhere she goes. But before her meteoric rise to fame, the “Good Luck, Babe!” singer lent her talents to genre other than pop: horror.

In 2022, Roan composed the score of indie horror short POSIES, directed by Rachel Stavis and Katherine Fisher. Now, the film is getting re-released on October 9 by horror media channel ALTER.

POSIES is about a world where “people begin to ‘devolve’ into monsters,” per the film’s synopsis, and a woman who “attempts to hide her transformation by placing flowers under her skin.”

Roan’s vocals and musical stylings are on full display in the trailer, along with eerie piano melodies reminiscent of her 2018 EP School Nights. The movie also features her little-known song “Bitter,” which came out in 2018.

“Having Chappell Roan’s creativity and intensity strewn throughout POSIES by way of the score that she so eloquently created was a dream come true,” said writer and co-director Stavis in a statement. “Our earliest discussions about this project centered around using her greatest instrument — her voice — to create a haunting, emotional, and atmospheric depth to the film. She captured exactly what we envisioned for this and did it virtually on her first try. It was extraordinary.”

“She has an amazing gift of storytelling through music, and her composition remains one of the most unique and unforgettable elements of the film,” Stavis continued. “We’re beyond grateful that she was able to create something so special — specifically for me and my audience — before her inevitable rise to fame.”
