Since the film was first announced, fans have been clamoring for a glimpse of Margaret Qualley and Aubrey Plaza in Honey Dont! A lesbian mystery-action movie starring Qualley as a private detective? It’s the stuff of sapphic cinephiles’ dreams.
Now, those dreams have become a reality, thanks to the first trailer for Honey Don’t!
The movie from director Ethan Coen and writer Tricia Cooke is a spiritual sequel to 2024’s Drive-Away Dolls, making it the second entry in the husband-and-wife duo’s planned trilogy of lesbian B movies. According to the film’s website, Honey Don’t! Is “a dark comedy about Honey O’Donahue, a small-town private investigator, who delves into a series of strange deaths tied to a mysterious church.” Qualley, of course, plays the titular detective, complete with a transatlantic accent.
The trailer opens with the clacking of Honey’s heels as she struts over to get some key intel from a flustered Plaza, who’s playing a mysterious cop with what looks like a massive crush on Honey.
Entertainment with an edge

Related“To me it really represents where I’m at gender-wise. I feel like a man and a woman,” Lorde said of her custom Thom Browne creation. In the wrong hands, Roan’s look could be sexist — but it’s not in the wrong hands. It’s in Roan’s.
Honey’s investigation leads her to that aforementioned church, run by Chris Evans as a shady cult leader who’s a preacher in the streets and a freak in the sheets. He’s somehow connected to the demise of a woman Honey’s been investigating, and clearly, her digging will uncover much more than the story of a single death.
By the end of the trailer, we’re watching brutality galore — and if there’s this much violence in the first trailer alone, the full film is no doubt going to be a sapphic bloodbath for the ages. That closing montage also includes a glimpse of Plaza lying half-naked in bed. Will Qualley be there with her? Fingers crossed, people.
Honey Don’t! comes to theaters on August 22. Check out the full trailer below.
