Buff, butch lesbians committing murder? Sign us up immediately.
We’re referring, of course, to the upcoming A24 romantic thriller Love Lies Bleeding, starring Kristen Stewart and Katy O’Brian. The trailer just dropped, and if it’s anything to go by, we’re in for a wild, bloody ride when the movie hits theaters.
Love Lies Bleeding follows introverted gym manager Lou (Stewart), who falls hard for Jackie (O’Brian), a bodybuilder passing through town. If it stopped there, it’d be an adorable ‘80s love story — but of course, nothing can be that easy. Lou’s father, played by a balding Ed Harris, is a criminal wanted by the FBI, and he pulls both Lou and her new love into his web of violence.

Entertainment with an edge
Whether you’re into indie comics, groundbreaking music, or queer cinema, we’re here to keep you in the loop twice a week.
The trailer features sex and violence in equal measure, showing flashes of skin and rippling muscle one minute, then gunfire the next. The final shot sees Lou and Jackie riding in a pick-up truck — with a dead body in the back. A dead body that starts moving. What happens next? We won’t know until Love Lies Bleeding comes to theaters on March 8, 2024 (aka International Women’s Day, as some eagle-eyed fans pointed out).
Naturally, the pairing of Stewart and O’Brian is a dream come true for the sapphics. Stewart has long been a lesbian icon, and O’Brian is quickly rising through the ranks — thanks in no small part to her insane physique, which fans might recognize from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Mandalorian.
Meanwhile, cinephiles across the internet are excited for the next film from director Rose Glass, whose 2019 horror film Saint Maud quickly became a fan favorite. As one fan put it on social media, Love Lies Bleeding looks like “Thelma & Louise but they actually admit they’re lesbians.”
