Who can match Tinashe‘s freak on the “Nasty” remix? The internet has thoughts.
The only way someone could miss out on hearing Tinashe’s “Nasty” is if they’ve been living under a rock. Thanks to TikTok, once again, another song has gone viral and increased the streams of the lucky artist, this time being Ms. Kachingwe herself. With slick production and an intoxicating chorus, “Nasty” is perfect for clubs, car rides, and memes.
Entertainment with an edge
Whether you’re into indie comics, groundbreaking music, or queer cinema, we’re here to keep you in the loop twice a week.
One in particular, featuring dance TikToker, @Nates.Vibe, went viral after one of his dance videos was set to “Nasty” as a backing track. The video made it rounds, with many TikToker users recreating his dance moves with the song, before Tinashe recreated her own video. @Nate.Vibe, then duetted the video on TikTok proving that he could do what Tinashe’s song inquires about: match her freak.
While the duet was a fabulous, meta, online culture win, Tinashe made a separate video with the caption “Me tryna get someone to hop on the remix” and now the internet is chiming in.
Tinashe has worked with numerous artists, including, Charli XCX, Kaytranada, Jennifer Lopez, Normani, Nick Jonas, frequent Taylor Swift collaborator Jack Antonoff, and the legendary Britney Spears. Not to mention, she’s no stranger to a remix, being on remixed versions of Britney’s “Slumber Party” and Nick’s “Jealous.” But here’s who the Internet thinks should be on her remix.
One commenter recommended Kelela, Victoria Monét or Kehlani. Honestly, either would do “Nasty” justice and to have another queer collaborator of color on the track doesn’t hurt either. Also, Kehlani has their own viral hit (and dance) to their new song “After Hours.”
Another commenter suggested Doechii or Baby Tate, while another TikToker threw Megan Thee Stallion and Bree Runway into the ring. Megan isn’t a stranger to what TikTok can do to a song, especially when the app, a dance from TikToker (insert name), and remix from Beyoncé helped make “Savage” number one in the US in 2020.
Other suggestions include Ariana Grande, SZA, Amaarae, FKA Twigs, and the iconic Janet Jackson (who Tinashe performed a tribute for with Jason Derulo and Ciara in 2015). She’s never worked with either of these artists, even though we were close to getting a duet with Ari in 2021.
Then, in an interesting turn of events, Chlöe Bailey nominated herself by commenting “Me” under Tinashe’s video. The “Treat Me” singer definitely has the voice and persona to hop on the remix.
Regardless who officially joins the “Nasty” remix, any of these artists could match Tinashe’s freak. Now, who’s going to be?
