Double Trouble

Is there a Kaytranada x Victoria Monét album in the works?

Is there a joint album underway between these two queer music powerhouses?

In an interview with Mixmag, cover girl Victoria Monét chatted about all things music, touring, and her ascent into superstardom thanks to her latest release Jaguar II. The singer-songwriter is officially out of the studio writing for other artists and dominating the music industry with her brand of R&B, and the whopping seven Grammy nominations this year prove it.

Still, Victoria hasn’t left behind her collaborative spirit. Known for working with artists like Choe and Halle Bailey, Selena Gomez, and bestie Ariana Grande, her latest release also comes with features from soul legends Earth, Wind & Fire and super producer Kaytranada.

And while she’s perfectly content working on her solo projects, the “On My Mama” singer revealed that she’d love to work on a joint album with Kaytranada.

“I want a whole project with him,” Victoria said for Mixmag.

We want the entire project too, Victoria. But the plot thickens because Victoria also disclosed that the idea has already been circulated to Kaytranada and that her team “may have” spoken to his.

Kaytranada stepped onto the scene in 2010, but it wasn’t until his Grammy Award-winning album Bubba was released that he started gaining international recognition. The Canadian DJ has worked with many queer entertainers, including Kali Uchis, Syd, and Tinashe.

So a collaboration Victoria would be another win for the gays. But it wouldn’t be the first time the two worked together.

Kaytranada added his house-influenced production to Victoria’s “Alright.” The standout track found more love when it was featured on Kaytranada’s DJ set as an opener for Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour

Additionally, the two plan to collaborate again, as Victoria plans to release a deluxe version of Jaguar II

“I do intend on releasing the deluxe, yes.” Victoria said.

This deluxe edition will feature a collaboration between her, Kaytranada, and D’Mile, the producer who worked on each Jaguar II track, save the one featuring Kaytranada. So after this deluxe comes out, we’ll keep our fingers crossed for a joint Kaytranada x Victoria Monét album.
