The GLAAD Media Awards are going a little bit country this time around. The venerable award ceremony recognizing LGBTQ+ visibility in media has booked none other than rising country star Tanner Adell to perform.
This Thursday, Adell will take the stage in Los Angeles to make her debut at the 36th annual GLAAD Awards.
RelatedSZA and Chappell Roan say they’re each other’s dream collaborators — so let’s make it happen!
“I was so honored to be asked to perform at this year’s GLAAD Awards,” Adell said in a statement. “The work they do to celebrate and recognize that everyone deserves to be accepted and welcomed inspires me.”
Entertainment with an edge
Whether you’re into indie comics, groundbreaking music, or queer cinema, we’re here to keep you in the loop.
“The GLAAD Media Awards honor media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues,” the official ceremony description reads. “Since 1990, the GLAAD Media Awards have grown to be the most visible annual LGBTQ awards show in the world, sending powerful messages of acceptance to audiences globally.”
Beyoncé fans will likely recognize Adell for her work on the Cowboy Carter track “Blackbiird,” a cover of the Beatles song. Adell also contributed background vocals for the opening track “Ameriican Requiem.”
But before her feature on Cowboy Carter, Adell has long been building a following in the music scene, where she is known for crossing genres between pop, hip-hop and country, and for sporting “glam country” rodeo-inspired looks.
After releasing a slew of singles, Adell’s breakout song “Buckle Bunny” went viral, garnering the artist hundreds of thousands of new Instagram followers and more than a million listeners on Spotify seemingly overnight. The song title refers to a derogatory name given to female rodeo-goers, which Adell gleefully reclaims. In 2023, she released her debut mixtape, also titled Buckle Bunny.
The 36th annual GLAAD Media Awards will take place Thursday evening March 27—where Twitch streamer AustinShow will live stream from the red carpet. The entire event will be available for streaming on Hulu starting April 12.
