For Trans Visibility Day, the WNBA made a post on Instagram announcing their observance of the holiday and praising transgender people across the world for their bravery and resilience in the face of adversity.
Normally, this wouldn’t be too major, but if you take our current political climate into account, it ends up being pretty funny.
If you’ve been living under a rock, our current president Donald Jessica Trump made a series of executive orders targeting the transgender community. One of those orders was insultingly named “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports”. The order seeks to ban transgender women from competing in women’s sports, claiming that trans women are taking away opportunities from cis women due to their “biological advantage”, backed up by grifter Riley Gaines and a bunch of pseudoscience.
Entertainment with an edge

There’s just one problem: professional women’s sports organizations like the WNBA don’t seem to care about barring transgender athletes as much as conservatives think they do. In fact, we’ve seen efforts to uplift transwomen in sports from these organizations with athletes such as Layshia Clarendon, who became the leagues first openly nonbinary and transgender player from 2013 to her retirement in 2024 from the Los Angeles Sparks.
Related“That’s really my hope and my goal for trans and nonbinary people in sport…to just have that opportunity to be our full selves and be successful”.
Then you have Donald Trump, who has over 27 allegations of sexual assault against him. Despite this he claims to be a champion for women’s rights, which is, to anyone who can see, a complete lie and a con. An organization whose sole mission is to uplift women’s representation in competitive sports would know quite a bit more about the subject than someone performatively surrounds himself with young girls to make a transphobic “point.”
