Bridgerton fans rejoice! The Ton just got a whole lot queerer.

While we were cooped up at home in 2020, Netflix dropped the romantic drama Bridgerton into our laps and fans have been hooked ever since. From steamy relationships between season one’s Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page) and Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), and season two’s Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), set the internet ablaze. And the deep love shown between a young Queen Charlotte (India Amarteifio) and King George III (Corey Milchreest) in the Bridgerton spin-off series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story made fans fall deeper in love with the franchise.

Now, fans are gagged after this Bridgerton star’s reveal. Golda Rosheuvel, who plays Queen Charlotte in the original franchise was on the Jennifer Hudson Show to talk about her upbringing, the lavish outfits and wigs she wears as Queen Charlotte, and to give Shonda Rhimes (creator of Bridgerton) her flowers. In the middle of her interview, when explaining to Hudson about how she fumbled her original audition for Lady Danbury (played by Adjoa Andoh), she also talked about her wife.

Rosheuvel did a 2022 interview for Just for Variety podcast, where she disclosed that a lesbian casting director told her not to come out. Rosheuvel refused the advice and proudly talks about her identity as a “Black, biracial, cis-gender, lesbian” and her partner, writer Shireen Mula. But some fans weren’t aware that Queen Charlotte is played by a lesbian and viral video by TikToker Alle Mims proves it.

In the video, after Rosheuvel says, “And I said to my partner, now wife,” Mims shows up on the screen shouting “What? Queen Charlotte is married to a woman? Oh, another w another.”

Mims reaction video garnered plenty of fans reconfirming that Rosheuvel is queer. One sure said “Yup! Golda is an amazing Queer Black Actress & her work for Queen Charlotte is the standard!!! 🤭” and another said “she’s too fierce not to be! what MAN could live up to her shine??” We agree.

Rosheuvel joins Bailey and Queen Charlotte‘s Arséma Thomas as the queer actors shining brightly within the franchise. And while Queen Charlotte featured the franchise’s first queer storyline, rumor has it that another one will appeared in Bridgerton season three. Check out the extended interview between Rosheuvel and Hudson here.

Bridgerton season 3: part 1 premieres on May 16.
