Bridgerton stars raise over £70,000 for trans rights

In the United Kingdom, the country’s Supreme Court ruled that the legal definition of a “man” and a “woman” is based on a person’s “biological sex assigned at birth.”

This is devastating for transgender people living in the UK for reasons I feel as though are self-explanatory. Some people, such as famous transphobe J.K. Rowling, decided to gloat about a group of people having their basic civil rights stripped away.

There is no denying that J.K. Rowling is an evil person, but some British celebrities aren’t as cruel. Bridgerton actor Nicola Coughlan took to Instagram to announce she is raising money for Not A Phase, a charity organization in the UK whose mission is to improve the lives of trans adults in Britain.

“To see an already marginalized community being further attacked and attacked in law is really stomach-churning and disgusting and to see people celebrate it is more stomach-churning and disgusting,” Coughlan said in her Instagram video.

The actress originally set the goal to £10,000, but in just 24 hours, the fundraiser had raised over £70,000. Ironically, £70,000 was the same amount of money that J.K. Rowling reportedly donated to Women Scotland, the anti-trans organization that brought the Supreme Court case forward.

Prior to Coughlan’s fundraiser, Not A Phase had faced financial loss after losing almost all of its corporate sponsors. In a post on Instagram last week, the charity asked its followers for support.

Fellow Bridgerton star Charithra Chandran also took to social media to express her disgust towards the Supreme Court ruling in a TikTok.

“I have never felt unsafe around a trans woman ever, my womanhood has never felt threatened by a trans woman ever, and if your womanhood has, I think that speaks more to the fragility of your womanhood than anything about trans women,” Chandran said in her TikTok.

Loser behaviour to target an already vulnerable and oppressed group tbh
