Bigots are thrilled about JK Rowling’s involvement in the new Harry Potter series

JK Rowling’s transphobic vibes “have not affected” casting for the TV adaption of Harry Potter, says HBO chief executive Casey Bloys. Yeah, okay, sure Jan.

Rowling, who serves as one of the upcoming show’s executive producers, has repeatedly misgendered trans women and equated them to predators. She currently spends her time donating to anti-trans causes and attacking trans women on social media.

“She’s been fairly involved, she was very involved in the process of selecting the writer and the director,” Bloys said to press at HBO’s 2025 preview presentation in West Hollywood, Los Angeles recently. “I imagine she’ll have opinions on casting. It hasn’t affected the casting or hiring of writers or production staff or anything, so we haven’t felt any impact from that.”

Bloys has previously dismissed Rowling’s views as “a very online conversation.” He has not made any public statements denouncing her transphobia.

The series, which is currently in the writing and casting stage, is slated to premiere in 2027.

Bloys added that the main factor affecting casting concerns the actors’ ages.

“One of the ideas we talked about was [filming] the first season and the second season very close to each other, time-wise, because from 11 to 13 is a big jump in kids’ lives. You can get away with 13 to 15, something like that. So, we are going to have to think about scheduling…so that they don’t grow too much between seasons. It is a consideration.”

After IGN first shared the news in an X post, it was shortly flooded with transphobic, homophobic rhetoric from Rowling supporters, which should tell you everything you need to know about how her involvement will impact things.
