Viral post frames Chappell Roan and Connor Franta as straight exes - INTO
Lavender Marriage

This viral Chappell Roan hate post implies that she dated … Connor Franta?

Chappell Roan is no stranger to starting discourse. From politics, to privacy, to paparazzi, she’s been a hot topic all throughout 2024. But even she would probably be caught off-guard by the latest bizarre hot take about her: that she — the singer behind songs like “Pink Pony Club,” “Naked in Manhattan,” and “Good Luck, Babe!” — is secretly straight.

The discourse began with a post naming Roan as one of several “straight female artists who never dated a woman yet still pretend to be bisexual just to exploit the LGBTQ+ community,” which also called out pop stars like Billie Eilish, Sabrina Carpenter, and Miley Cyrus.

There’s plenty of problems with the post, namely that no one, celebrity or otherwise, needs to be in a queer relationship to prove their queer identity. Then there’s the fact that Carpenter has never said she’s anything other than straight — or does kissing Jenna Ortega in a music video (and a femme alien at the VMAs) constitute a coming out? And of course, Roan herself is a lesbian, not a bisexual woman, so the post’s premise simply doesn’t stand up to scrutiny.

The user behind the post explained their so-called evidence in a reply: “[Roan] was straight and was dating men until recently ( after her rise to fame) she decided that she wanted to become a lesbian bc it was gonna benefit her…” They seemingly forgot that plenty of queer people are in straight relationships before they come out.

Not only does the post allege that Roan is faking her lesbian identity for clout, but it includes a photo of her with, presumably, one of her ex-boyfriends. The only problem? The “boyfriend” is famously gay YouTuber Connor Franta.

The photo of Roan with Franta also crops out another gay icon: Troye Sivan, who discovered Roan along with Franta when she was only 16 years old, leading to the photo of the trio.

Franta himself reacted to the post, simply writing, “but im exceptionally gay, you know this.” Can’t argue with the facts.

In addition to Franta, folks across the internet are dragging the post for its nonsensical logic and framing of Franta and Roan — two of the gayest celebrities we can think of — as a straight couple. Now that would be a lavender marriage for the ages.
