Sebastian Stan is going back to his gay roots for this new movie

Sebastian Stan playing gay? This feels like the good old days.

Stan, now best known for playing Bucky Barnes across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will star in Burning Rainbow Farm, an upcoming film directed by Justin Kurzel. Stan’s partner will be played by Leo Woodall, fresh off starring as a queer nerd-turned-action hero in Prime Target.

Burning Rainbow Farm is based on the book of the same name by Dean Kuipers, which tells the true story of couple Tom Crosslin and Rollie Rohm, who founded a peaceful pot farm in rural Michigan called Rainbow Farm. Per the synopsis from Deadline, “When the two run afoul of local authorities and their young son is taken from them, a standoff ensues leading to one of the largest and most dramatic sieges America has ever seen.”

Fans are overjoyed to see Stan in another queer role, as it’s been more than a decade since he last portrayed a queer character. He’s previously played gay in the series Kings and Political Animals and the movie The Architect — and that’s to say nothing of the novels’ worth of fan fiction shipping Bucky Barnes with Steve Rogers. “welcome back gaybastian stan,” reads one viral response to the movie announcement.

Woodall, too, is no stranger to queer parts. Beyond Prime Target, he made waves on Season 2 of The White Lotus as the guy who infamously “f*cked his uncle.” (What is it with that show and, ahem, keeping it in the family?) Fans are equally hyped to see Woodall in Burning Rainbow Farm, particularly to see his on-screen chemistry with Stan. Regardless of the project, seeing two beautiful men kiss is always a positive.

Director Kurzel is just as excited to see the two actors together. “Burning Rainbow is a love story about two outliers who raise their middle finger to hate and declare ‘This is who we are, and we dare you to take it from us,’” he told Deadline. “I’m excited to create this loveable and courageous couple with Sebastian and Leo, their union will be one to remember.”
