After an over two year hiatus, Fortnite’s first trans character is back in rotation. The popular online battle royal shooter quietly reintroduced the DC superhero Dreamer character set for a limited time.
Each week, Fortnite updates their item shop, where players can use in-game currency to purchase downloadable content. The Dreamer outfit has been included within a DC promotion for The Batman Who Laughs bundle, which is based on an alternate reality, Joker-inspired Batman.
Along with Dreamer’s classic superhero look, players also get the LEGO variant of the character for LEGO Fortnite Odyssey and LEGO Fortnite Brick Life. Both Dreamer character outfits are available for 1,200 V-Bucks until January 31.

“Nia Nal sees the future through dreams and protects the world from nightmarish threats,” the shop description reads.
Nia Nal, aka The Dreamer, hasn’t been seen in Fortnite’s item shop since 2022, when she became the game’s first trans character as part of their Pride event, Rainbow Royale.
Originally, Dreamer debuted on the fourth season of Supergirl, the CW TV series, in 2018. After becoming the first out trans superhero in a live-action series, she made her comic book debut in 2021—the rare superhero to go from TV to comic rather than the reverse.
Her first comic, a standalone story titled “Date Night” in DC Pride #1, was written by Nicole Maines, the actress who portrayed Dreamer on Supergirl. This was followed up with a 2024 graphic novel telling the character’s origin story, Bad Dream: A Dreamer Story, also written by Maines. While both of these comics could be considered non-canonical to the wider DC universe, Dreamer officially entered the main continuity in July’s Superman: Son of Kal-El #13.
“[Dreamer] has this ferocious drive to protect people and to fight against discrimination and hatred,” Maines said during the 2018 Comic-Con panel announcing the character. “She’s the superhero we need right now.”
“I wish there was a trans superhero when I was little,” she added.
As Fortnite’s item shop rotates its inventory each week, the Dreamer set will expire on Monday in the player’s local time.
