Hunter Schafer, the trans star of Euphoria, could be playing Zelda in the forthcoming Legend of Zelda film, according to famed leaker Daniel Richtman on X.
Currently, the rumor only alleges that she is in consideration, and there is no public confirmation one way or the other from Schafer, Sony Pictures, nor Nintendo.

Richtman made headlines last year after he revealed that singer Billie Eilish was in consideration for a “big role” in a new X-Men film. Film buffs consider him “mostly reliable,” with his leaks accurate more often than they’re wrong.
In 2024, Schafer expressed interest in the rule, saying that it would be “so cool” to be cast in the role since she’s been a lifelong fan.
“I’ve seen another wave of the fan cast and everything, which is just really sweet,” she said at the time. “I’m honoured that they even think of me for that.”
The film, set in Nintendo’s hit Legend of Zelda universe, is directed by The Maze Runner’s Wes Ball and will be co-produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, who is one of the creators of the franchise. It’s speculated that the film will air in 2027.
In 2023, Nintendo’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie became a huge success, becoming the second most successful animated film of all time – just behind Frozen II. Many consider the 2020s to be the golden era for video game films, with the Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy and A Minecraft Movie becoming box office successes.
