Pick Up The Phone

Lady Gaga reveals what it will take to get a ‘Telephone’ sequel

Cowboy Carter has come and gone, and though the highly anticipated Beyoncé album had no shortage of iconic feature (hi, Dolly and Miley!), it still had one glaring omission: the sequel to Beyonce’s collab with Lady Gaga, “Telephone.”

Fans have been eagerly awaiting a follow-up to “Telephone” since its music video came out in 2010, infamously ending with the words, “To be continued…” Little Monsters and members of the BeyHive alike were convinced it would be a part of Cowboy Carter due to some aesthetic similarities, and even after the Gaga-less album was out, they didn’t give up hope

Now, nearly two months after Cowboy Carter’s release, Gaga herself has commented on what it would take to make a “Telephone” sequel happen.

While talking to Entertainment Tonight about her new concert film Gaga Chromatica Ball, Gaga was asked if there was still any hope for a future collab with Beyoncé. In reply, Gaga simply said, “Whenever Beyoncé calls, I’d like to pick up the phone.”

Clearly, the ball is in Beyoncé’s court, leading fans to plead with her to pick up the phone and give Gaga a call — an ironic request, considering their first hit’s chorus repeated the phrase “stop calling” over and over.

It could be a perfect fit for Beyoncé’s next album, the third act of her three-album project, which is heavily rumored to embrace the rock-and-roll genre.

Others seem to have given up hope, no matter how many hints Gaga and Beyoncé drop, and drawing attention to it only makes it less likely.

Gaga, meanwhile, is hard at work on her own music. It’s been four years since Chromatica, and fans are hungry for her seventh studio album. Luckily, Gaga hears them loud and clear.

“I have been working on my new music all the time and I truly live and breathe it,” she said. “I just can’t wait to give it to the fans.”

Unfortunately, that’s as specific as Gaga will get about the next album. When can fans expect it? “They hate when I say, ‘Soon,’ but soon,” Gaga said. And what will it sound like? “Completely different” from Chromatica, she said — but exactly what that means is anyone’s guess.

Whenever Gaga’s next album arrives, fans will welcome it with open arms — and if it happens to feature Beyoncé, all the better.
