Tyra Sanchez has always been a divisive figure in the RuPaul’s Drag Race canon. Since controversially winning Season 2 of the show back in 2010, she’s sparked controversy after controversy, from claiming fellow queen Morgan McMichaels had died, to warning fans not to attend RuPaul’s DragCon on a certain date, an apparent threat of violence.
Tyra’s latest scandal, though, is perhaps her most egregious yet. Following the tragic death of Drag Race UK winner The Vivienne over the weekend, Tyra made a tasteless post on X. In response to a post The Vivienne made in 2020 claiming that Tyra was probably “fuming” over her win being spoiled on Netflix, Tyra wrote, “Yet it doesn’t compare to the fumes of the crematorium.”
The post was met with immediate backlash from Drag Race queens and fans alike. Queens including Kandy Muse wrote that Tyra had crossed a line, while fans called for her crown and title to be revoked.

Now, the queen of drag herself, RuPaul, has seemingly chimed in on the discourse. On Instagram, RuPaul posted a clip of her slapping Tyra across the face from Season 2 of Drag Race. No caption was necessary: Clearly, RuPaul is on the side of leaving Tyra and her disrespect for the dead in the past. As of this article, the post has amassed more than 50,000 likes in only an hour.
RelatedAnother “Drag Race” showmance was long overdue.Time for a queer vocab lesson.
Drag Race queens cheered RuPaul on in her comments section. “GET HER AGAIN FOR ME MAMMA!!!” wrote Shea Couleé.
“LOLLL GET HERRRR,” echoed Denali.
Kandy Muse chimed in again too, this time simply writing, “MOTHER.”
Meanwhile, fans celebrated RuPaul’s post across social media. “MAMA RU YOU ATEEE THAT !!!!!!!” wrote one user on X. Does this mean Tyra’s crown and title could actually be revoked and potentially passed down to Season 2 runner-up Raven? Only time will tell — but clearly, Tyra’s little remaining good graces with the Drag Race community are gone once and for all.
