Barack Obama has been loud and clear about his support for presidential candidate Kamala Harris. But his latest post about her on social media has trans folks wondering if their connection runs deeper than it first appears.

On X, Obama posted two pictures: One of him rocking his infamous tan suit from 2014, and one of Harris’ similar tan suit from the Democratic National Convention (which was actually made in a shade called coconut brown, fitting for the coconut queen herself). “How it started. How it’s going,” Obama wrote. “Ten years later and it’s still a good look!”

It’s true that both Obama and Harris are among the best dressed politicians in recent memory — but for the gay internet, the images told a different story. Obama’s side-by-side looked suspiciously like a transition timeline, and trans folks quickly jumped on the opportunity to congratulate Obama/Harris on her 10 years of HRT.

But if Obama were to come out as a trans woman, there’s already a viral joke about the new name she’d choose. Don’t worry, Barack, we’d let you be Claire, no questions asked.

Of course, though queer folks are only joking, some people worried that conservatives would see the post and spiral into their next conspiracy of transvestigating both Harris and Obama. (Sadly, they’d probably already be doing that regardless.)
