Allegedly assassinating UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was enough for Luigi Mangione to instantly go viral. His shirtless pictures — and his rumored bisexuality — are only the cherry on top.
The 26-year-old was detained and identified as a person of interest in the murder case on Monday, and when the news hit social media (along with pictures revealing Mangione’s appearance), the gay internet was immediately obsessed. The only thing that could make him more up the gays’ alley is if he were actually queer himself — which some viral posts are saying could be true.

The X account for 34th Street Magazine, a culture magazine at the University of Pennsylvania, where Mangione was a student, shared a message claiming that while at school, he made out with a (presumably male) person. “for those curious he is bi #equalopportunity,” reads the message.
Another user named Brandon claimed to have hooked up with Mangione years ago. “he was great in bed,” they added, throwing more fuel on the thirsty fire.

The rumors of Mangione’s sexuality are unconfirmed, and a definitive answer might never come. Nevertheless, folks across the internet celebrated the prospect of Mangione being bisexual. Could the most talked about person in America being bi could finally solve bi erasure once and for all?

Then there are the ethics of it all. Is an accused murderer the ideal object of the internet’s affection? Is sexualizing Mangione appropriate given the gravity of his situation? Maybe not — but alas, affairs of love (and lust) aren’t bound by reason or morality. The sheer volume of thirst posts has become a meme in itself. “the entire gay community getting added to an fbi watchlist today,” quipped one user. Mangione’s time in the national spotlight is just beginning — and clearly, the gays are happy to keep him there as long as possible.
