At her May 23 concert in Prague, McCarthy took a note from a fan in the crowd, then read it aloud. “Hi Beth. I’m actually trans,” the note read. “Can you choose my new name?”
When the crowd erupted in cheers, McCarthy gave the fan a chance to speak into her microphone. “Because David really doesn’t fit me,” the fan added.
“So your name was David,” McCarthy replied. “It is now, but it’s not going to be in a moment.”

With that, McCarthy took the fan’s hand and offered her a new namesake. “I think the name Luna is really beautiful,” she said, and the fan’s jaw instantly dropped. “Now, I was gonna save it for me having a kid, but actually I think that you look beautiful and you are honestly — you shine like the moon. Would you like to be called Luna?” McCarthy asked.
“Yeah! Yes! Thank you so much!” Luna replied, and the two embraced as the crowd roared once again.
When they pulled apart, Luna said, “I think I’m your kid now! You are adopting me.”
“You are my kid now! I love you so much,” McCarthy replied, pulling Luna in for another hug.
To complete the new-name ceremony, McCarthy said, “David no more. We knight you as Luna,” and dubbed Luna with her microphone.
The video quickly went viral on TikTok, where McCarthy shared more kind words about Luna in her caption. “Luna you will forever be in my heart thank you for giving me the HONOUR to choose your new name,” she wrote. “I hope it helps you to shine even brighter than you already do 💙🩷🤍”
Folks in McCarthy’s comments section gushed over the beautiful moment. “The way her entire being lit up when she said Luna 🥹,” one fan commented. “This is literally the most precious thing ever.”
