When you think of Doechii’s target audience, straight men probably don’t come to mind. The rising bisexual rapper has always been for the girls and the gays. That doesn’t mean straight guys can’t enjoy her music — but based on their reactions to her latest discourse-driving hot take, they don’t take kindly to not being catered to.
On a recent episode of Hot Ones Versus, Doechii and her touring partner DJ Miss Milan were challenged on their knowledge of one another. That included Milan having guess Doechii’s “biggest dating red flag.”
“This is a huge red flag for me,” Doechii said after giving Milan some time to think. Finally, she flipped her whiteboard to reveal the answer: “A straight man.”
“You know what’s so crazy? I was gonna say ‘men’!” Milan replied.
“You already know,” Doechii agreed. “I mean, strike one: you’re a man. And you’re heterosexual?”

Doechii’s comment immediately took over the internet, with some straight men raging over being excluded from Doechii’s ideal dating pool. One viral post even called it “a perfect reason to hate” Doechii, as the user had apparently been looking for an excuse. Another claimed that Doechii is “pushing heterophobia.”
RelatedMother has arrived“I felt like a weird, gross, cut-open, circus freak, wounded human being that had my guts spilling out,” Allen shared in a new TikTok.
It’s easy to see why straight men would be offended by her comment, but queer folks were quick to step in and validate Doechii’s point of view. After all, is it any surprise that a queer woman prefers to be around other queer people, romantic interests included? Some users even spoke from experience, recalling the difference between being with queer men versus straight men: “I’ve dated guys who wouldn’t pull up and support me at certain events if they thought it was gonna be too gay,” a self-described straight DJ shared of her dating history. “that’s cool like nobody taking that option from them. But in her case she don’t want that.”
Meanwhile, Doechii didn’t say she dislikes straight men, or even that she wouldn’t date one — just that being one is a red flag for her in a romantic context. Compared to the average conversation in a queer friend group, she’s been an absolute saint toward the straights.
