Chappell Roan is an undeniable fashion icon. From her Lady Liberty look at Gov Ball, to her quintet of career women to promote “The Giver,” Roan already has too many next-level looks to choose a favorite. (Roan herself even ranked her top 10 looks of 2024 on Instagram, including her Lollapalooza wrestler, “Roan of Arc” armor from the VMAs, and the pig-nosed look that became the cover art for “Good Luck, Babe!”.)
But when it comes to fashion, Roan doesn’t work alone. Her stylist Genesis Webb is with her every step of the way, and at last night’s Fashion Los Angeles Awards, Webb took home the award for Breakthrough Music Stylist of the Year.
Roan herself, clad in Fall 2025 Alexander McQueen, presented Webb with the award. That included delivering a moving speech about their relationship, particularly how Webb changed Roan’s perspective on the fashion industry.

“I met Genesis on my first magazine shoot ever,” Roan’s speech began. “I was so drawn to her because I was kind of scared of her in the best way. I was like, ‘Oh, she is tattooed. Like, this girl is not afraid of a neck tattoo. I love this.’ And her hair is so long and beautiful and black.”
“I was just mesmerized by how sweet she was to me, because I’d never been treated that way in the fashion industry,” she continued. “It made me realize that maybe this isn’t as exclusive as I thought, and she was so sweet.”

Roan went on, explaining that from the very beginning, Webb always made her feel comfortable and welcome in the fashion world.
“We were in a car — like, a Toyota Camry — and she was dressing me in a ballgown,” she said. “Did not know this b*tch at all. Like, naked in a Toyota Camry, dressing me in this ballgown, on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It was not chill. And this girl was sweet to me, and it’s what I really f*cking needed. And I knew right then, that what I was missing was feeling understood, and finally, I found her. Finally, I found someone that understood me and that I didn’t want to be pretty all the time. I want to look weird.”
Referring to her own McQueen outfit’s extravagant neck ruffle, Roan added, “Y’all can’t see my mouth. Who’s doing do you think that was? Not mine! There’s no one who makes me feel cooler or more c*nt, or more powerful, or more Chappell Roan, than Genesis. Thank you for taking a risk on yourself and moving from Oklahoma, and thank you for taking risks with me.”
“This is really cool,” she concluded. “We’re really lucky we get to do this. And fashion is, I feel like, a part of me now because of you. And you taught me that fashion maybe isn’t that exclusive, and that a girl in music can feel like a supermodel. So thank you. You deserve this award. I love you.”
