The queer community is bursting with excitement at the highly anticipated release of inZOI on March 28. The game is the latest simulation competitor to The Sims, and players are already excited to see if it has more to offer than our beloved childhood comfort game.
inZOI’s gameplay favors a GTA 5-meets-The Sims illustration style that feels unique—if somewhat dull in color—and hyperrealistic. The character simulator has already caught the eye of many queer players because of its potential to create nonbinary characters and portrayal of same-sex couples.
RelatedThis is pretty cool
However, in the week before release, inZOI hasn’t showcased any queer couples in their trailers, leaving queer players worried. The recent trailer explores the progression of a straight couple from dating to marriage and having a family, along with some additional add-in game features. Some queer fans have naturally concluded that same-sex couples are guaranteed, as it’s usually a part of current simulation games. But others aren’t convinced due to the lack of representation in the trailers and marketing on social media, and we agree!
Entertainment with an edge
Whether you’re into indie comics, groundbreaking music, or queer cinema, we’re here to keep you in the loop.
The queer community shouldn’t have to wonder if it is a possibility that we’re included. We deserve to be valued out loud. The Sims is so precious for this reason— the game has consistently advocated for marginalized communities and identities and hasn’t strayed away from showcasing us in trailers or social media.
Hopefully, the inZOI team will take note of the queer community’s concerns for future releases.
