It’s been a long 15 years, but Lady Gaga finally answered the question on every fan’s mind: Will “Telephone” ever actually be continued? That was the promise she made at the end of her iconic music video with Beyoncé — “to be continued” — but a decade and a half later, nary a continuation has been seen.
Cut to Gaga’s latest interview, in which Vanity Fair hooked her up to a lie detector and grilled her on her career. That included asking Gaga directly about her unfulfilled promise: “Will [the ‘Telephone’ music video] ever be continued?” asked the interviewer.
To that, Gaga simply said, “Yes.” But details beyond that were sparse — to the interviewer’s next question, “When?”, Gaga replied, “I don’t know.”
And when the interviewer slid a photo of Beyoncé across the table and asked if she’d be involved in the “Telephone” sequel, Gaga smiled and said, “Maybe.”

Fans immediately latched on to Gaga’s confirmation. Though she didn’t seem to have any concrete news about a “Telephone” sequel, she hasn’t forgotten that she owes one to the world. The theories quickly started flying: Could Gaga be featured on Beyoncé’s next album, the final project in her three-act trilogy? It’s heavily rumored to be a rock album (following her reclamations of house and country music), which would match Gaga’s vibe perfectly.
And though Gaga has already announced the tracklist to her upcoming album Mayhem (including collaborations with Gesaffelstein and, of course, Bruno Mars), some fans are staying hopeful that Beyoncé could make a surprise appearance in a yet unannounced song. It may be delusional, but hey, sometimes delusion is all we have.
Last year, Gaga revealed what it would take to get a “Telephone” sequel. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she said, “Whenever Beyoncé calls, I’d like to pick up the phone.” Could that Beyoncé call have finally come through?
Mayhem releases on March 7, featuring previously released singles “Die With A Smile,” “Abracadabra,” and “Disease.” Check out the album trailer below.
