Ben Affleck’s gay alternate ending for Succession has us wondering something

It’s been a year and a half since HBO’s smash hit Succession came to an end, answering the series-long questions of who would inherit the Roy family business and where each sibling would end up. But one famous Succession fan is still dreaming of how the series could have (and should have) ended, and the internet can’t help but wonder if he’s projecting.

Last week during a panel on CNBC, actor and two-time J.Lo ex Ben Affleck gave his reasoning for why AI could be good for the entertainment industry in the long run. During his answer, though, he went off on a tangent that sounds straight out of gay fan fiction.

“Eventually, AI will allow you to ask for your own episode of Succession, where you can say, ‘I’ll pay $30, and can you make me a 45-minute episode where, like, Kendall gets the company and runs off and has an affair with Stewy,’” Affleck proposed. “And it’ll do it! And it’ll be a little janky and a little bit weird, but it’ll know their sets, it will know those actors, and it will, you know, remix it, in effect.”

The idea of a platonic bro relationship ending in an affair seems to hit home for Affleck — so naturally, the internet immediately connected his alternate ending to his decades-long bromance with Matt Damon. Rumors of a secret romance between the two have swirled ever since they made it big together in the ‘90s, with milestone moments since then including Affleck dropping by Damon’s house without his wedding ring and Damon saying he’d seen Affleck’s penis “many times” before it was on-screen in Gone Girl. Could this be the reason Affleck’s second attempt at romance with Jennifer Lopez petered out earlier this year?

Fans also noticed that though Affleck’s proposed plot was met with laughter from the crowd, his face remained deadly serious. Clearly, this man should put his imagination to use on AO3.

Ultimately, the moment is just another chapter in Affleck and Damon’s “which could mean nothing” saga. There’s still time, Ben!
