Conservative pundit Christopher Rufo might be best known for originating the racist lie about Haitian immigrants in Ohio eating household pets that’s gained such disturbing ground lately. But the anti-critical race theory talking head may have just gotten himself into some karmic hot water.

Because for someone who’s so intent on spreading racist lies about undocumented immigrants, he conveniently failed to mention that his own wife Suphatra came to America as an undocumented immigrant in the late 80s.
Last week, one of Rufo’s since-deleted Facebook posts from 2018 started making the rounds, and boy oh boy, the comeuppance is a lovely thing to behold.

The racist harassment Suphatra Rufo details in her statement is unconscionable. It’s something no one should have to go through. So why isn’t Christopher Rufo taking his own wife’s painful experience in mind? Why has he instead chosen to lean into racist stereotypes about immigrants to the point of inventing entire storylines about Haitian immigrants in Ohio?
Well, because he’s a hypocrite, basically.
Christopher Rufo, now anti-immigration grifter, wife was here illegally.

You may be wondering, why isn’t this a bigger deal? One Redditor put things in context, saying:
“Fans of people like Rufo don’t care about consistency. They like him because he antagonizes and gets under the skin of people on the left. Left expressing outrage over his hypocrisy probably seen as a win by some. And of course the fact they probably view his wife as the “right type of immigrant” legal or not.”
Sad, but true. When it comes to racism, logic simply does not apply. Rufo himself even had the gall to reply to the screenshot on Twitter/X with an “and?”
Clearly he doesn’t see the problem with advocating for mass deportation even though it could impact his family.
“What’s with your support of people who want to deport your wife,” one commenter asked.
Great question! Like many conservatives, Rufo seems to believe that cozying up to power means he’s exempt from the rules. Either that, or he genuinely doesn’t care about his wife’s safety.
The sad truth is that whether you’re seen as the “right type of immigrant” or not, the conservative regime will quickly throw you under the bus. It doesn’t matter how close to power you are. As one commenter succinctly put it, people like Rufo “hate first, and think later.”
We’ll see how that works out for him in the long run.
