Cardi B sounds off on NYC budget cuts

In addition to being a Grammy award-winning rapper and a standout mom, Cardi B is an avid voice in politics. She has interviewed both Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden, raised awareness on local elections through her social media feed, and now, she’s had enough.

During an Instagram Live on Sunday, Cardi B criticized everything from the New York City budget to national foreign policy, going so far as to say she will not back Joe Biden in the coming election.

“I’m an angry-ass bitch and I’m about to go off right now,” Cardi B began, adding, “If something happens to me it’s because I’m speaking truth.”

Like many New Yorkers, Cardi B is furious over Mayor Eric Adams sweeping budget cuts to essential services. “There’s a $120 million budget cut in New York that is going to affect schools, public libraries, and the police department. You know I don’t give a f*ck about the cops, but like, it is what it is,” she said, noting that sanitation would also be cut.

“Bitch, we are gonna be drowning with rats!” said Cardi. “You’re gonna see raccoons at 42nd Street!”

According to the New York Times, the education department’s budget will be cut by $1 billion over two years. As a result of the new budget plan, libraries will close on Sundays, summer school and universal pre-k programs will be squeezed, the police force will shrink to 1980s levels, and composting initiatives in the Bronx and Staten Island will stall.

Adams blamed the failure of the Biden administration to support the city through its current crisis. “Migrant costs are going up, tax revenue growth is slowing and [Covid-19] stimulus funding is drying up,” Adams said.

“No city should be left to handle a national humanitarian crisis largely on its own, and without the significant and timely support we need from Washington, today’s budget will be only the beginning.”

Cardi B seemed to agree with faulting the Biden administration. “I’m not endorsing no fucking presidents no more, because how is there a $100 million budget cut in New York City for f*cking schools, library, police safety, and sanitation?” the rapper said.

“Yet, Joe Biden is talking about like, ‘Yeah, we could fund two wars. We could fund two wars.’ Motherfucker is talking about, ‘We don’t got it, but we got it, and we’re the greatest nation.’ No the fuck we’re not! We’re going through some shit right now!”

Cardi’s comments represent a growing trend of animosity among voters. According to a recent NBC News poll, Biden’s approval rating has shrunk to 40% over his foreign policy. Young voters (ages 18 to 34) are particularly dissatisfied with his response to the Israel-Hamas war, to the tune of 70% disapproval.
