10 LGBTQ+ movies we can’t wait to see this year

Like Beyoncé and global warming, LGBTQ+ cinema shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. 2023 brought us a whole new selection of modern queer classics to obsess over including Passages, All of Us Strangers, and Kokomo City, so we’re fully expecting this level of greatness again in 2024.

It’s early days, of course, but from what we know so far, this really could be a banner year for queer film. Don’t believe us? Here are some of the most exciting LGBTQ+ films soon coming our way in 2024.

Love Lies Bleeding – March 15

The internet is understandably horny for the latest film by director Rose Glass which stars Kristen Stewart falling for an ambitious bodybuilder named Jackie at her gym. Whether this Sundance highlight ends up being good or not, we have a feeling that this potential cult classic is going to be loved regardless, especially by the most horny among us.

Femme – March 22

Revenge porn takes on a whole new meaning when Jules seduces the closeted gay man who assaulted him after his drag performance in London. But when Jules develops feelings for Preston, moral shades of gray take shape against the dank, neon-lit streets of London.

Challengers – April 26

Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino has hinted his new Zendaya-led film is going to be gay in at least some capacity, which means everything we manifested after watching the trailer last year is about to come true. Get ready to see a million grainy screencaps of Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor boning come April.

Joker: Folie à Deux – October 4

Musical numbers? Check. Lady Gaga vibing in a lead role? Check. Bisexual icon Harley Quinn making out with other women? Check check check. Who knew that a Joker sequel would be so fruity?

Deadpool 3 – November 8

With all the timeline/multiverse shenanigans, there might not be much room to explore Deadpool’s pansexuality in his upcoming threequel. But at least Yukio and Negasonic Teenage Warhead will return as our favorite mutant couple, plus non-binary star Emma Corrin has also been cast as the film’s main villain.

Wicked Part 1 – November 27

As if Wicked wasn’t gay enough, the movie adaptation stars gay icons like Ariana Grande and the internet’s favorite boyfriend, Jonathan Bailey. Whether the film includes any toe-sucking remains to be seen, but we remain hopeful.

I Saw the TV Glow – May 3

Two teenage outcasts (played by Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine) struggle to navigate the line between TV and reality when their favorite scary show is canceled. That will be us the day American Horror Story ends.

Queer – TBA

The devil works hard, but Luca Guadagnino works harder, especially when it comes to the gay agenda. Based on the 1985 novel of the same name, his second film on this list after Challengers stars Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey in the story of an American expat’s obsession with a younger man in 1940s Mexico City.

On Swift Horses – TBA

In what might be the most attractive coupling ever seen on film, On Swift Horses stars Jacob “bathtub” Elordi in a complex gay affair with Babylon’s Diego Calva. Oh, and Daisy-Edgar Jones is in it, too.

The History of Sound — TBA

The words “Paul Mescal”, “Josh O’Connor”, and “gay romance” are all you really need to know, but in case you do still need further convincing, The History of Sound follows two young men who set out to record the lives of their countrymen during the First World War. If you continued reading beyond that first line, consider us impressed.
