Dolly Parton has a message for Beyoncé after the success of country song “Texas Hold ‘Em”

Beyoncé made history this week when her new track, “Texas Hold ‘Em” debuted at number one on the Billboard country chart. Beyoncé becomes the first Black woman to top that particular chart.

The song also debuted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. Jack Harlow retained the top spot with “Lovin On Me”.

Beyoncé released the track, and another song, “16 Carriages”, during the recent Super Bowl commercial break. Her switch to country-inspired songs for her next album, Renaissance Act II, surprised some fans — and many in the country community. There were reports of at least one country music radio station initially refusing to play the song.

However, among the first to congratulate Beyoncé on the success of the track is country icon Dolly Parton.

Taking to Instagram yesterday, Parton, 78, wrote, “I’m a big fan of Beyoncé and very excited that she’s done a country album. So congratulations on your Billboard Hot Country number one single.

“Can’t wait to hear the full album!” Parton wrote before signing off with “Love, Dolly.”

When Dolly Parton congratulates you on your country music number one, you’d think that would quieten the haters. However, some people still stormed the comments to question Beyoncé’s entry into the genre.

Fortunately, many others said Parton’s seal of approval, although not needed, was welcome.

“If you are disagreeing with…checks notes, Dolly Parton, on what is country….maybe be more like Dolly. ❤” was one well-liked comment.

“Queens supporting queens 👑👑🎀” was another.

Dolly Parton: Rockstar

Parton herself knows all about switching genres. Although revered as a country artist, last year she released her first rock album (Rockstar). She said she did so after she was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 2022.

Beyoncé’s Renaissance Act II drops on March, 29.
