The gays are asking: Is it okay to hook up with someone three times your age?

How old is too old when it comes to a hookup? That was the question posed in a Reddit post by a guy who’d hooked up with someone nearly 50 years older than him.

“I’m 19, and have been getting into the gay side of bisexuality lately,” the poster explained. “Hopped on Grindr, met someone my age, did some stuff, then the next day met this 68-year-old guy. It was f*cking awesome. Not sure exactly how to feel due to the age difference but f*ck was it good.” 

“Is this a common thing? Much older men with guys my age? I was pretty comfortable the whole time, had this dude full on worshipping me which was kinda surreal,” he continued. “Just not fully sure how to feel and wanted to get some other perspectives cause that seems like sort of a big age gap.”

Overall, the community had a clear message for the 19-year-old: as long as everything is consensual, there’s nothing wrong with sleeping with older people.

“You’re exploring and had fun. I wouldn’t read too much into it. Just be careful,” reads the top reply. “When I was 18 I was experimenting with all ages. I think a 50-year-old guy was the oldest.”

That’s not to say the idea of a 50-year age gap didn’t give some folks pause. But ultimately, it’s an individual choice who you hook up with, as another poster confirmed.

“I think that as long as they’re both consenting adults there is nothing immoral or wrong with what they did. Do I think it’s kinda icky…. Yeah. But f*ck what I think, it’s your life,” they replied. “I think what they mean with ‘just be careful’ is older men have more experience when it comes to talking to men & can be kinda manipulative — but that’s true of people of all ages.”

Gay guys sounded off on which words immediately let them know another person is gay — and which words mean someone is painfully straight.

Several commenters shared stories of their age gap relationships from both perspectives.

“Nah, not weird. I’m in my mid 30s and sleep with guys in their 50s and 60s all the time,” wrote one user. “They are generally great in bed — confident, assertive, passionate. I know a lot of people think it’s weird but as long as you’re both having a good time that’s all that matters.”

“I’m 69 and my guy is 26. We’ve been seeing each other regularly going on a year. It’s been the greatest experience we both agree and don’t hesitate — older guys are mentors,” another shared. “We like to share what we know.”

A final comment summed it up succinctly: “YOLO.”
