This video of Colman Domingo living his best life is everything

The Oscars took place on Sunday and one of the nominees who wanted to savor every moment of the day was Colman Domingo. The queer actor was nominated for playing the gay, civil rights activist Bayard Rustin, in the Netflix movie, Rustin.

Domingo has been nominated for a swathe of awards for the role, and he’s cut a dash on the awards circuit with his eye-catching outfits. He’s widely regarded as one of the best-dressed men in Hollywood.

He allowed Vanity Fair to film him preparing for his night out at the Oscars. It includes hanging out in a five-star suite in a Beverly Hills hotel, joking with his long-term makeup artist, Jamie Richmond, and premiering his outfit, as decided with his stylists, Wayman and Micah.

Domingos’s gratitude for this moment in his life is palpable, as well as his desire to share it with his friends and loved ones.

Domingo sadly didn’t nab his ‘Best Actor’ Oscar on this occasion. That award went—as widely expected—to Cillian Murphy for his role in Oppenheimer.

However, there’s no doubt that Domingo has hit a new career height and more award nominations are sure to follow. His next role, in the prison movie Sing Sing, premiered at SXSW on the weekend and has already generated positive reviews. The Daily Beast says Domingo gives “the performance of a lifetime” in it.

Colman Domingo as a child in the 70s

Over the weekend, Domingo, 54, took a moment to celebrate his journey. He posted a childhood photo and said the kid he was would not believe where he is today.

“Can this kid even imagine today? I don’t think he could. He was such a nerd that loved to read books and make film strips and go to reading groups where Miss Renee the librarian would read Encyclopedia Brown books,” he said.

“He preferred the library where his imagination would run wild instead of hanging out playing dodgeball. He wasn’t athletic at all. He read books about heroes and leaders and villains and clowns and adventurers. He wanted to be them some day. His dream came true.

“Not easily. With dedication, hard work, hardships, triumphs, pitfalls, detours, reroutes and love and faith. Today is a good day for this kid. He already won. And as you can tell he always loved a pop of color. Got it from his parents.”
